How to pack china & glass.
Being prepared for packing up your home, packing your furniture and all of your belongings is 80% of the work done. So, like every boy scout, BE PREPARED!
To Pack-up china, glass and delicate ornaments you'll need:
- Packing Tape.
- Small and medium size boxes.
- Cardboard to separate out sections of the box.
- Polystyrene pellets or cheap popcorn (bio degradeable) and bubble wrap.
- Newspaper or other cheap large sheet paper - no print is best (no ink to come off).
- Marker pen.
- A firm surface to pack on.
TIP: Packing is back braking work so make sure that you have comfortable shoes on, as you may be standing for long periods of time.
Packing plates and flat china:
- Always individually wrap each item - in paper or bubble wrap. If you stack plates together they are likely to break against each other.
- When packing into boxes, place a layer of pellets or pop corn at the base then lay on a piece of card (this acts as a buffer).
- Next pack the plates 'on end'.
- use folded newspaper as side packing and to fill in gaps around plates.
- Leave room at the top so that when you put in more pellets or pop corn the plates are covered.
- Clearly mark this box 'Fragile - Glass & China'

Packing glassware, vases, teacups and other hollow or delicate items:
- Carefully wrap each item in a piece of newspaper or bubble wrap then use low tac sticky tape to keep wrapping in place.
- Prepare a box base as for plates (above) then place items upright in the box.
- When packing items with handles, make sure that they point to the centre of the box to reduce the chance of damage if a box is accidentally kicked.
- Once you have covered a complete layer, use newspaper and caard to create a new level.
- Keep tis 'layering' going until the box is full.
- Clearly mark this box 'Fragile - Glass & China'
